¹ Thus the hashshamayim הַשָּׁמַיִם ^heavens vehaaretz וְהָאָרֶץ ^{and the earth} were finished, and all tzevaam צְבָאָם ^{the host} of them.

² And on hashshevii הַשְּׁבִיעִי ^{the seventh} day Elohim אֱלֹהִים ^God ended his work which he had made; vaiyishbot וַיִּשְׁבֹּת ^{and he rested} on hashshevii הַשְּׁבִיעִי ^{the seventh} day from all his work which he had made.

³ And Elohim אֱלֹהִים ^God vayvarech וַיְבָרֶךְ ^blessed hashshevii הַשְּׁבִיעִי ^{the seventh} day, vaykadDesh וַיְקַדֵּשׁ ^{and sanctified} it: because that in it he had rested שָׁבַת shavat from all his work which God created and made.

¹² And Yehovah יְהוָה ^Yehova spake unto Mosheh, saying,

¹³ Speak thou also unto the children בְּנֵי ^benei of Israel יִשְׂרָאֵל ^Yisrael saying, Verily my sabbaths שַׁבְּתֹתַי ^shabbetotai ye shall keep תִּשְׁמֹרוּ ^tishmoru for it is a sign אוֹת ^ot between me and you throughout your generations לְדֹרֹתֵיכֶם ^{ledoroteichem} that ye may know that I am Yehovah יְהוָה ^Yehova that doth sanctify you. מְקַדִּשְׁכֶם ^{mekaddishchem.}

¹⁴ Ye shall keep וּשְׁמַרְתֶּם ^ushemartem the sabbath הַשַּׁבָּת ^hashshabbat therefore; for it is holy קֹדֶשׁ ^kodesh unto you: every one that defileth it מְחַלְלֶיהָ ^mechalleiha shall surely be מוֹת ^mot put to death: יוּמָת ^yumat for whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul הַנֶּפֶשׁ ^hannefesh shall be cut off וְנִכְרְתָה ^venichretah from among his people

¹⁵ Six days may work be done; but in the seventh הַשְּׁבִיעִי ^hashshevii, [is] the sabbath שַׁבַּת ^shabbat of rest שַׁבָּתוֹן ^shabbaton holy קֹדֶשׁ ^kodesh to Yehovah לַיהוָה ^yehovah; whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath הַשַּׁבָּת ^hashshabbat, he shall surely מוֹת ^mot be put to death יוּמָת ^yumat.

¹⁶ Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.

¹⁷ It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days Yehovah יְהֹוָה made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.

³ Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the shabbat שַׁבַּת ^{the sabbath} of shabbaton שַׁבָּתוֹן ^{of rest} , an kodesh קֹדֶשׁ ^holy mikra- מִקְרָא־ ^convocation ; ye shall do no work therein: it is the shabbat שַׁבַּת ^sabbath of יְהוָה ^{the LORD} in all your Mooshevoteiche מוֹשְׁבֹתֵיכֶם פ ^dwellings.
